WK&S Archives

In 2013 I assumed management of the WK&S Archives. The Archives are a significant collection of WK&S-related paper, images and memorabilia including...

Letters to the stockholders
Letters to the volunteers
Crew schedules
Newspaper and magazine articles and ads
"All Aboard!" newsletters
Brochures
Flyers
Tickets
Maps
Passenger guides
Museum Train inventories
Gift shop souvenirs
Photographs
Slides
Film
Postcards and more.

The collection has been placed in my care, but belongs to the railroad. If you want to know something about the railroad's history, send me an email and I'll get you whatever information I have on your questions. There's a good spread of material representing every decade of the railroad's history. But all of the categories noted above are incomplete to some extent. I'm always looking to expand the collection and am seeking any paper and memorabilia items having to do with the WK&S. I'm not asking anyone to give up their own collection of original material unless you just don't want it anymore. Copies are fine. Or I'll do the copying and safely return your original material to you. I can scan slides, negatives and prints. I'm looking for WK&S images that show any unusual activities like construction projects, equipment moves, restorations in progress, restoration debuts, special events and so on. I'm also looking for current information like recent newspaper and magazine articles and ads. I live in Virginia and don't have access to local media. Don't forget, recent material that may seem mundane today is exactly what will be interesting decades from now. I have duplicate quantities of some original memorabilia items. Trades can be arranged if that's what it takes to perk the interest of another collector. Nothing is for sale.

The WK&S Archives. It may not look like much, but there's an enormous amount of compactly organized material.

To see some select items from the archives, go to my WK&S Memorabilia page. I also maintain a detailed running history of the railroad that's largely based on information from the Archives. Go to my WK&S History page. Or look for the corresponding booklet in the WK&S gift shop.

Shown below is a small display of archival items I had set up at the railroad's 50th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, June 30, 2013. Check my memorabilia page for more information on individual items.
